Pablo: innovative lighting and home furnishings designs where "less is more"
|
Pablo was founded in 1993 by Venezuelan born industrial designer, Pablo Pardo, and has established its studio in San Francisco.
Pardo has gained international recognition for its innovative lighting and home furnishings designs which are characterized by an uncompromising devotion to simplicity and utility. The company’s mission is honest and direct, frequently challenging established design metaphors in search of more experientially based solutions that are free of decoration and embracing a “less is more” philosophy. It is also devoted to maintaining a common thread that links all of its designs to a common language, embracing the value of permanence and not the disposable. |
In 1993, Pardo introduced Piccola, a novel award winning leather based lamp and that is now part of SFMoma’s prestigious permanent collection. Piccola’s philosophy soon thereafter inspired a host of new designs which included the Sophie and Isabella lamps, the award winning Uno Bin, as well as the Elise and Cortina lines which are now staples in the lighting world. In 2000, Pablo introduced IO a revolutionary telescoping task lamp which was also awarded “Best New Product” at the NYIGF Accent on Design.
Pardo’s recent introductions begin to blur the boundaries between ambient and task lighting, incorporating the best qualities of both into a single fixture. Inclusive of this philosophy is Gloss, a lamp that allows you to direct dual focused light sources for both direct and indirect lighting and the Ventana roller shade lamp, a retractable light shade that can hang from wall or ceiling and is both a space divider and ambient light source combined.
In 2004, Pablo launches Light Table 52, a cocktail table/bench system that can be combined to form a continuous runway of light that allows seating or to display objects. Also new for 2004 as an innovative wireless task light, Kaleidoscope, which offers both task and ambient lamp heads that are attached to its base via magnets for effortless adjustment. Kaleidoscope also allows for multiple light heads to be used together.
