Holtkotter Leuchten has been manufacturing chandeliers and table lamps, wall sconces, swing-arm lamps and floor lamps in Germany for more than 35 years. They belong to the dying breed of lighting companies that still design their own fixtures and do their own manufacturing from the raw metal to the finished product, resulting in lighting fixtures and lamps of lasting quality. Their manufacturing expertise and dedication to quality lighting is apparent in every single lamp. Well, not even the words "lamp" or "light fixture" seem appropriate for these well designed and immaculately designed light fixtures. Holtkoetter therefore decided to use the description "The Ultimate Lighting Machines." Their lighting fixtures, floor lamps, sconces and table lamps are the result of decades of dedicated research and development in various areas of lighting and design and its practical application in our daily lives. Holtkoetter is constantly working on keeping their lighting products affordable as well as on improving their production technology, and streamlining their production processes.
Below a quote from Holtkoetter's Web site: we couldn't say it better! "Form and Function What could a Holtkotter Leuchten Pharmacy Lamp have in common with a Porsche 911? In automobile design, the overriding idea today is to overcome and minimize wind resistance. Porsche was one of the first automobile companies to systematically incorporate the idea of aerodynamics into the design of their cars. We at Holtkotter have taken a similar approach in the design of our lamps. The same shape that minimizes wind resistance maximizes light output. The shape of our newest pharmacy lamp deliberately resembles the ellipsoid shape dictated by the laws of aerodynamics. Our designers had the task to maximize light output from a given lightbulb for a given area on a table. They experimented with different shapes and came up with a saucer type shape as opposed the traditional pharmacy shape. This is a good example of how we consider function first, and then follow through with the design details. The ellipsoid shape is echoed on the joints, swivels, and the base of the lamp."
