Outdoor Lighting

outdoor dining

This oversized beehive pendant from Roost would be a perfect match for the contemporary outdoor dining area.

The Verner Panton chairs are not only so incredibly beautiful, but some of the most comfortable dining chairs I have tried.

We use them in our showroom and everyone comments on their comfort.

Beautiful Outdoor Dining

Just had to share this romantic dining spot.
I especially like the chandelier!
Why not bring some romance outdoors?
Everything just feels so cozy on this porch: the colorful chairs that special because they don’t match, the whitewashed peeling paint.

I want to sit down for a nice long dinner with friends!

Home Envy is a great Australian blog with lots and lots of really beautiful home photos.

Worth visiting!

City Contemporary Ceiling Fan

City Contemporary Ceiling Fan

Minka Aire has joined forces with Kathy Ireland Home Collection to design the City Contemporary ceiling fan.
This modern ceiling fan is available in chrome.  What I like about this fan is that the light fixture is not just an afterthought, but an integral part of the design.

Varaluz Rainy Night

Varaluz Rainy Night

“We loved sudden thunderstorms while growing up. There’s nothing quite so relaxing as seeing and hearing rain pelt against the window panes and on the tin roof (rusted!).”
This was the inspiration for the designers from Varaluz. The result is a charming pendant light with a unique organic touch.

To recreate the impressions of beads of rain upon a window,  the glass of this unique island light by Varaluz is hand-pressed . The Rainy Night finish is made from streaking an eggplant-black glaze over silver.

“At Varaluz we believe lighting should not only be interesting, but sustainable. For instance, most of our fixtures use steel that has 70% or greater recycled content, and glass that is 100% recycled. We use reclaimed materials in our glass and shades.”

balcony with an organic decor

balcony with an organic decor

A small balcony can offer a peaceful refuge.
In this example from the German site Living at home the focus is on natural materials.  Wood furniture, potted plants in baskets, colors: Shades of brown and green. The cushion covers are of raw silk and strips of woven leather. A lime green barbecue grill completes the picture. (No idea where one could find one here in the US, but it’s a nice touch.)
Decorative bundles of grass add a feel of nature without taking up much space.

Electrolux Outdoor Kitchen

Electrolux Outdoor Kitchen

I found the outdoor kitchen I want – BADLY!!! I can’t stop looking at the photos and am eyeing and measuring my deck.
Thank you Inhabitat for featuring this dream kitchen!!

This  outdoor kitchen by Electrolux features a modern design consisting of a series of controlled curve details. The countertops feature Electrolux’s integrated barbecue and integrated burners and come in a glossly white finish.  The preparation or serving countertop consists of wood panels that can be adjusted to suit seated dining. The matte grey cupboards and a small portion of the white glossy counter are embellished with a graphic image of tree branches, signaling the very literal message that the design is intended to intersect with nature.

The rest of the service space is occupied by planters that are hidden within the design. The planters can grow many different types of plant species and can be customized. By considering some fresh herbs and/or produce one may gain a more energy efficient lifestyle by eating as locally as possible — from your own backyard!

Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor Lighting

I was intrigued with the lighting in this beautiful outdoor space presented by Modern Living. http://www.modernliving.com

It is a great example of the creativity you can have when adding lighting to the outdoors.
Just like indoors, outdoor lighting is all about layers of light and creating focal points.

Don’t try to do it all with a row of path lights lined up like a runway.
Use multiple light sources, each with the least amount of light you can possibly get away with.
Just as people gather around a fireplace they will congregate around a dining table illuminated festively like this.
